Last month my battery died on my truck. Replaced that and then the alternator (both were old and needed replaced soon anyhow). Everything ran fine until yesterday when I tried to start it (first time since Friday). When I turned the key I heard one click and nothing else. Voltage on the dash was pretty low and dropped to nothing after turning the key, after trying at night I also noticed the internal lights would go out and not come back for awhile if it at all. Wasn't able to jump it off and I took the battery to Advanced and they tested and confirmed it was good (I tested it with my multimeter and got 12.4V, but just wanted to confirm and that was the only thing I could do after work before they closed). Any ideas what could cause this? I saw some things about fuses, but didn't see any that were out (if anyone knows a specific one to check on an 01, let me know). Also fusible links, but not sure how to check them, I saw a couple coming out of the positive battery cable, but they didn't look bad and not sure if damage can be seen visibly.

Could this be anything with the starter or starter motor relay? Possibly the alternator gone bad? Battery is fully charged, so I would think it would at least crank if alternator is bad. Any help would be great, thanks.

 

Check your grounds. Make sure battery cables are clean and tight at both ends. Corrosion or looseness is the first thing I'd check for.
