What’s that 4x4 noise?
Migrated
Hi first snow, I locked my hubs and put my lady in 4high. Indicator lit fine with a subtle normal sounding click. Then I drive it 20 feet and this awful sound!!! Of course I parked it, unlocked the hubs. But then I had to record it for y’all and re-locked the hubs. Same sound.
The locking hubs are brand new! So I thought it was the transaxle motor but it goes into 4h/l ok (but not perfectly). Then I locked again and the sound stopped but it’s not right in 4x. It’s terrible vibration at 50...the terrible sound is gone or broke off but the truck is parked.

Transfer Case CV Joint
Got stuck in the snow and know 4x4 works on all four wheels. Good news. but the clicking sound seems to be coming from the transfer case / drive shaft ? CV ? joint. The boot is completely missing. Seems common. Will search for others to determine if it's a home garage job. Worry about rusty bolts as usual...
