What is this?

Im trying to figure out why my truck has a rough idle problems at times and issues with the vents not working properly. I built a homeade smoker and hooked it up to the intake. The only smoke I saw was coming out of this. What is it? Part of the vacuum system Im assuming? Thank you.

Its the IAC(idle air control) Valve

All fuel injected engines use one, Fords is called an IAC Valve

There are no Jets like in a carb so an idle screw will not work since there is no way to set a mixture

The IAC Valve is on a passage that by passes the throttle plate, so it will always be near the throttle plate
IAC Valve is a solenoid
It gets 12volts with key on, Red wire
The computer controls its GROUND wire, pulsing the ground to set idle when throttle plate is closed, this method is accurate +/-3rpm, so very stable idle can be set

A good way to test for a vacuum leak is to warm up engine, let it idle and unplug the IAC Valves two wires
IAC Valve will close
Idle should drop to 500rpm or so, engine may even stall either is GOOD it means no vacuum leak
