Hi all! First post, just picked up an '88 Ranger that I'm really enjoying going through. Most of the time, at least.
The wiring is giving me some headaches. There was a camper on the back and some curious wiring integrations that tied into the existing cabling. This afternoon I noticed that fuse 8 (dome lamp, chime, interior lights, etc) had blown. Turns out several wires were tangled up in the E brake, had severed, and were making contact.
2 of the wires are attached to what appears to be an ad-hoc ground. The other wire, photo attached, appears to be coming from a white bundle nested in the frame right next to the e brake. It's pretty difficult to access, and I'm not sure what this bundle is serving. I've taped them all off for now, but would love to get it pointed back where it should be going.
Any idea what the white bundle is connected to, and what the grey wire would be disconnected from?

But in 1994, for power windows, there is a white/yellow stripe wire that runs from drivers door to passenger door
And a black Ground wire

Thanks so much for the insight! The truck doesn't have power windows but maybe the wiring is incorporated regardless?
That I couldn't tell you but its possible, generally back then if your MODEL had the OPTION for something the wiring was there even if the option wasn't added
So there were model specific wiring harnesses used, i.e. XL, XLT, Custom, ect.............models
From your picture,the black and white wires look like they have an orange jacket on them, like an extension cord.
I'm wondering if they went to trailer brakes, canopy lights, fog lights.
I'd try and find the other end and see if they still go to anything.
Really great observation. They black and white/yellow wires are housed in a sleeve but that's also whats screwed into the cabin ground. Lame. I accidentlally just broke it off confirming.
There was a camper, but now i'm wondering if there was also a trailer at some point that was also wired in at some point.
