What's your CB set up?
I've looked through a lot of old threads but I thought I would just make a new post to get some new input on the subject. So what is your setup? how far is your range? Pros? Cons? What radio and antenna should I go with? Thanks!

anyone?

Currently running a tuned Uniden PRO510XL with a 102 Inch Stainless Steel Whip. Range wise with the antenna latched down on average about 5 - 8 miles in town and up to 10 - 15 miles on the flat lands. If I let the antenna up I can squeeze a few more miles out of it.

I'm using the Superduty mount as well. I use a 4ft Diesel whip. I really like the location of it and with my Cobra CB It does well talking to truckers on the highway and if you have a buddy driving beside you that you want to talk to. Not really sure about max range though.
https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ine=1327411811 Where my radio is located: https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ine=1327411811 And I also ran a Alan mount before which I still have it in my tool box if your interested https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ine=1327411811 |
I have my uniden mounted pretty nicely in my expo console. I'll have to take a pic later, kinda proud of that. 24" fire stick on my tool box with a tab. Not sure on range, seems to work pretty well.

Awesome! Thanks for the input guys! But what radio would you recommend specifically? And antenna I want maybe a 4ft tall one?
|
I have a CB I can sell if anyone wants it. PM me for info. Otherwise I will make a thread in a few days.
|
Any specific radio anyone would recommend?

Ranger CB from RCI, nice rig, no ehco.
this is it but it is black: http://www.walcottcb.com/ranger-rci6...th=340_500_448 for a good reliable CB Uniden has good Radios. The Pro510: Nice little radio with minimum knobs. http://www.walcottcb.com/uniden-pro5...th=340_377_379 and the PRO520: same as 510 except more knows and a little bit better in control of the signal. http://www.walcottcb.com/uniden-pro5...th=340_377_379 Both great little radios, compact and fit almost anywhere. Uniden has other larger CB and with all kinds of features, so decide what you need one for first. Uniden’s latest offering: http://www.walcottcb.com/uniden-bear...th=340_377_379 Nice stuff. There is Cobra and other names, there are high powered and std power your call. http://www.walcottcb.com/cobra-19dxi...th=340_377_379 http://www.walcottcb.com/cobra-29ltd...th=340_377_379 and Galaxy: http://www.walcottcb.com/galaxy-dx-9...th=340_377_379 Keep in mind one thing, The best radio can’t get out and communicate without a GOOD antenna. Buy the best antenna you can afford, next would be good coax, something like RG8X Belden is good stuff and then a CB Radio with the features you want. Try to stay away form the Midland stuff I have heard of problems. Antennas: Wilson and Firestik are the antennas of choice, there are other manufacturers so talk to people. Coax: Belden is easy to find and affordable, stick to a good quality. The best, IMHO, would be Times MicroWave Cable, LMR200 for a mobile setup. OK talked too much ! |
Wow thank you! this helps A LOT. There are a lot of different options. I've heard something about antenna tuning? Is it necessary?
|
Yeah Its necessary. If you know someone who has an SWR Meter borrow it or Radio Shack sells one as well. This is how you would use it and the SWR meter that Radio Shack sells.

Justin, for the PA did you just drill a hole or 2 in the plastic surround? I can't seem to find where people mount them behind the grill. I need to find a new place to put mine since the spot I've used ate 3 of them lol

That wording sounds dumb after re-reading it. I'll snap a pic for ya sometime soon |
I will more than likely be coming back to this thread in the next couple of weeks.
My CB will arrive either tomorrow or saturday. |
