Wiring a 2001 4.0 into a 99 former 3.0

Looking for help..I'm trying to install a 2001 4.0 sohc from an explorer into my 99 factory 3.0 ranger..i have the column Keyes and ecm from a 2001 donor ranger that had factory 4.0...I'm finding that the harness under the hood for the 4.0 doesn't want to work on the 3.0 wiring..also inside with the steering column i have one plug that is on right side of column that has 4 wires and the plugs don't match..nor do the wiring colors..the other plugs are a match except for one on the left side of column, 15 wires i think but the colors are the same and i went back and got the matching plug..just have to splice it in..also my 99 has a egr motor o.k. the left fender but the 4.0 this is mounted to the engine..HELP PLEASE!!

This is the plug on the 4.0 engine I'm trying to figure out if it is a match to the 3.0 harness...i have a feeling that they are going to be slightly different...
Why?? Because for starters i have a egr motor mounted on the left fender that was for the 3.0 factory engine...and the egr motor assembly is mounted on the 4.0...and i think it would have to run thru this plug...

Not a common or a good swap, so wouldn't be alot of info out there on this.

Yes, I would agree the wiring will be different on those connectors, if thats the engine wiring harness then you should be using the 4.0l SOHC wiring harness from computer to engine???

Best bet will be to find EVTM for 2001 Explorer and EVTM for 1999 Ranger, EVTM is wiring manuals mage by Ford for each model each year

Reason it is not a popular swap is because it's exactly the same effort and cost as V8 swap into a Ranger, i.e. engine, transmission, computer and wiring
And regardless of 4.0l SOHC's "rated" horse power, it actually runs about 180HP on regular gas, it can get up close to 200HP on 93octane, but 302 V8 does that on regular gas

I have these 3 PDFs for 1999 3.0l power distribution if they help, wire colors

Thanks for the input..and the pdf files...
I read on a few other forums that this was just a matter of installing the steering column with key and matching ecm from a donor 4.0 truck..so i grabbed these 3 parts from a 2001 xlt 4x4 flairside with factory 4.0....well as I've found out there are differences in the column wiring...and the wiring from battery connects and also with the main big square plug on left side of motor...i did come across a complete 2001 ranger with factory 4.0 at a different yard today..it helped allot to go over it wiring wise..but i still have issues with 2 plugs at bottom of column...and i still need to confirm what's what on the big square engine plug..its numbered pin wise..but i don't have a diagram to get them wired correctly..nor do i know if they're even different from the 2001 explorer female side to the 2001 ranger plug that i bought today..hopeful to be able to graft it into the truck/ male side...

Yes i am using the wiring harness from firewall ecm to engine...the pic of the engine plug was unplugged from donor 2001 explorer when i pulled the engine..so when i find a diagram for it that should take care of the engine side..i still have a problem with a plug at bottom of dash on the right side of column...none of the wires match..as o.j. they change colors totally on both sides of the plug front factory..in all the trucks I've looked at..making it hard to figure out...

Well i did manage to get the proper diagram from Ford dealer here locally for the factory side if my 99 3.0 harness..everything matched the stock plug(male side)...but they gave me the wrong diagram for the donor 01 explorer 4.0....turns out they changed the connector in august of 01...so i have what is referred to as early model....engine tag is 12-19-00...so waiting for Monday to hopefully get the proper diagram..then I'll have to get something for the differences in pin and color to properly match it all..these diagrams come with pin location, circuit number and color of wires...
It seems as if they just have small changes so far..I've found all proper matches to the wires for the column change...except for 2 out of 4 in one plug...
And yes at this point i kinda wish I'd gone for the 5.0 swap...but.....done pulled the trigger on buying the 4.0 so lol....

Today I'm looking to install t case and starter...rear drive shaft...finish exhaust and power steering hookup once it it's running
