Wiring needed for a 3.0-4.0 Swap

Hello, I am in the middle of a 3.0 to 4.0ohv engine swap on my 92 Ranger 2WD truck. The donor truck is same year and I will be taking the tranny as well. I cannot have both trucks throughout the swap; I have to pull the engine/tranny, strip the donor truck, and get rid scrap it ASAP. I know I need all the engine wiring/harness-basically anything that plugs into the engine is a must and obviously the truck's ECM.

What else do I need wire wise for this swap in addition to what I've already mentioned?

Welcome to the forum

Not a good swap but if donor truck will be scrapped and is 1990-1994 then take everything out of engine bay, i.e. fuse box, EVAP, overflow/washer reservoirs, vacuum reservoirs.

If it unbolts take it
If automatic don't forget trans wiring, or reverse wire for manual

The EDIS-6 module runs the spark, it is often located on the FRONT side of rad support, follow the wires from coil pack

If donor is 1995 or later you will need other wiring added, as these used 104 pin ECU, 1992 uses 60 pin ECU

"Not a good swap" comment is because you can go out and buy a stock 4.0l 2WD ranger, which is much less work than the swap, lol.
And the swap you are doing is exactly the same amount of work as a V8 swap, i.e. engine, trans and ECU/wiring, which is something Ford never made so you can't just buy one, but they do come up for sale now and then

That is what I was thinking-take it all and I should be good to go. I was just trying to save some time if I could. I will have some time to transfer everything once I pull the engine and think I will take your recommendation-if it unbolts I will transfer it. Both trucks are 92 2WD manual trans, so I am not mixing and matching gens. The donor truck was my current truck untill I saw my new truck. It was in perfect shape without an engine/tranny and it only ran me 250, so I bought it; couldn't resist. Gotta love Craigslist! Thank you for your response. It is also good to know that if I can do this swap I could do a 5.0 swap.

Sounds like a plan

Just a heads up
Since you are in Calif I would check up on this swap
VIN on a vehicle has engine size, and also emission requirement
If you change engine size/model then VIN no longer matches vehicle
Legal issues not withstanding not sure how Calif will deal with that.

I have read that you may have to pay to get a Custom title and pay to have an inspection done, for road worthiness.

RonD you are right on that; I need to get an inspection done once the swap is complete. It should not be a big deal since I am within the guidelines provided by the state of California. Although I am not sure how much it will coast; I cannot imagine it will be that much. I plan to call this week sometime.
