hi all

I have a 1995 ranger xl 4x4 3.0
symptoms
it cranks but will not start
it had done this one or twice before but then started

you can hear the fuel pump running.
normally the fuel pump would run for a few seconds and stop.. when it does this it will start.
now you can hear the pump running without stopping. when is does this it will not start.

I have changed the relays and I have even changed the fuel pump and fuel filter to no avail
also I tried to connect obd scanner to see if there where any codes and it will not link up.
if you spray fuel into the intake it will run..
has anyone ever had such a situation??
any help would be greatly appreciated

 

If it starts when you add fuel manually then Spark is working
On the engines Fuel Rail there is a Test Port, looks like a tires air valve, because thats what it is, a schrader valve
Works the same way, press center pin in and fuel should spray out, 1995 should have 30psi fuel pressure so be careful

Test if you have fuel pressure at the test port
If you do then fuel injectors are not opening, and thats a computer problem, couple that with no ODB2 connection and that would confirm computer has failed
BUT..........is computer getting power?
The CEL(check engine light) should come on when you turn on the key, does it?
If so computer is getting power

The fact that fuel pump runs more that a few seconds with key on, and fuel injectors are not working, and no OBD2 connection, I would say shop for new /rebuilt computer

 

thanks for reply ..i am willing to be you are right about the computer. no cel.
i wonder could the computer be acting up due to bad grounds?? i will have to go through them any way.. i took a look at the grounds located at the passenger side frame and it was rotted through completely..
