adding power seats to 07 fx4 level II

in the next day or two i will be getting a 07 fx4 level II. it is loaded with the exception of power heated seats (they are leather). i am very familiar with the second gen explorers (have a 98 sport that i have done LOTS of stuff to) but the 07 ranger i will be learning it (i had a 90 xlt until some brat smashed the rear window and back of the cab). what i would like to know is can i take a power seat base from a explorer and use it in the ranger, and wrap it back up with the leather? i would like to do this because i have to take the seat apart for a seat heater kit that i have on the way.

From what I have experienced… if the seats are all the same shape then you should be able to remove one set of covers for the other.
2nd Option, look into removing the powered units from one set of seats to the other.
3rd Option, check out using the bottoms of the 07 and the backs of the Ex’s.

Not a guru here but there are a lot of similarities in the Ranger seats, year to year that is, so mixing and matching may be a way out to keep things the way you want.
The seat covers come off easy, sort of peal off, when putting them back on turn the covers inside out and start pulling, they are a tight fit.

i don't believe that will work. the explorer power seat tracks unbolt right off the seat, where as the 98+ ranger seats do not. would work perfect for the 97 and older guys, but i don't see it working well on the newer ones. not to mention the plastic on the side of the seat is completely different along with other things.

from what i know all the electronics for the power units are tucked up in the seat base for the explorers. this is where i am not sure about in the rangers. i would think i could use the seat tracks from the ranger and bolt them on to the explorers, but not sure.
yup, i was looking at the plastic trim on the ranger and it is different, but i would have to lose that anyways because it has a manual lumber **** there. i also am not sure if the shape is the same or not. i should have the truck tomorrow so i can better look at my 98 sport vs the level II

Mine Ranger is an ’03 and the seats unbolted from the tracks.

P.C. took a pair of pwrd leather Ex Seats, and they bolted in his ’99 Ranger, so if we can mix and match you might end up with pwrd seats in that 07.
Start from scratch, try to disassemble the pwrd Ex seat, then see if the tracks fit your floor and then if they fit your seats or if you can make the fit your seats; that easy.

so i now have the ranger. looking at the seat base themselves they look the same so it should work. all of you are telling me the explorer seats bolt to the floor, so i have no doubts about that.

can you please explain why the air bag light will go off?

both of you are correct. the track is way different. when i took them apart, nothing could be swapped. not even the back rest. also all the electronics are very different. i even had to stop, and make a quick run to the store. i just drove it without the passengers seat in and the air bag light was on. the only way i will be able to use any type of power seat, would be to find some from another ranger. oh well, at least i got the heated seat kit in. thanks for the info ppl.
