Carpet Install

Hello all. Not sure if this is the right sub forum for this.

I have a 2005 Ford Ranger Edge. I wanted to get carpet, but cash is a concern right now. All I wanted to do is basically put carpet over the hump in the middle of my truck. Can I just get regular old black carpet and put some glue down and just install a small bit of carpet myself? Or is it going to be more difficult than easy?

You could probably do that, but why?

You COULD do that. But it would probably look as ghetto as it sounds. You could always pull carpet from a junk yard and clean it.. just pressure wash it or something. Probably save you quite a bit.

If you're going to do it, at least use Astroturf.

Well, what I was wanting to do was install this: DS78B - Hump Mount With Speaker

My truck doesn't have carpet at all. I was going to take up the center console piece underneath the radio which consists of an annoying cubby hole and a big plastic tray. I was seeing if install some carpet or placing something down would keep that hump mount from sliding all over the place.

The hump mount doesn't have a way to secure it to the floor? Also, you might look into getting an explorer center console.. would take a little custom work, but nothing too crazy if you're wanting to mount a CB.

There is also the airbag control module under that "big plastic tray" center console that sits on top of the transmission hump. Might want to consider if that will work with the plan you have.

I'm assuming you have the vinyl floor. If anything, you can go to a junkyard and pick up a carpet for like 20 bucks from another ranger but if you don't want to do that, just use this stuff. the console won't move lol its velcro on steroids

Yes, I do have the vinyl floor. I'm going to run to Home Depot and do what you suggested. I totally forgot about those heavy duty fasteners. That will do the trick. Thank you. I'll give it a shot for sure.

Before you stick them on, use some simple green and clean the area to remove any greasy cleaners or anything else off of the vinyl so they stick better
