CB mounted above radio replace of center vents

I wanted to see what everyone's thought and opinion was on the place I'm thinking of mounting my CB radio. I have it placed where the Center Vents used to be. It's not fully installed just a test fit. I was thinking of just placing it on my roof in front of my Center Console. Draw backs of having it above my radio is the gap it has on the sides and that the speaker is going to be tough to hear unless I get an external speaker. Someone on Explorer Forums did this Idea.

I removed my center vents right above the double din and made a wood frame for it...

The frame is was just proto-typed in this pic...It is made from pine, not perfectly center and gaps in the corners
The new one is made of oak, sanded corners to follow the curves, and is now painted black (but I painted in my garage and I guess it was a bit to cold even with letting it dry for day+ so the paint got messed upwhile installing so I am going to sand down and repaint it the radio now sits at the top of the space with the oak fram under it, instead of over it.

Get some black pieces of plastic on the sides to hold it in there. If I didn't use my center vents so much I would be all over this.

I readjusted it a bit more and pulled it out further since it was right but up to the vent opening. I need to have the cables down not have metal to metal contact with connections. I figure if I block off the middle portion of the vent with some thermal tape, plastic and pipe insulation I won't have to worry about heating up or freezing my unit out. I like the way it sits and it's nice and clean install as well. I won't have to worry about the mic hitting me in the head. Do you think I should paint my radio bezel black? Later when I get time I will try to get those gaps filled in. I like this spot though any other ideas or suggestions let me know.

I will probably put the external speaker hidden where the tissues go in my center console. I just blocked off my center vents and the other 2 vents on the sides blow 5 times harder now on the lowest fan settings so I should be good on that. I don't really run my ac that much so its not really going to bother me. And if I run heat in the winter time it's the defrost and I rarely ever run the defrost cuz it heats up so damn fast.

Gotcha, I rarely ever run mine but when I do I want it. Trigger01 put his speaker there too, I have a special project that will be going in that spot on mine.

HaHa... it's ok. I really don't use my ac that much and if I do use it I don't get it that cold. I used some plastic and covered that with thermal tape. In front of that is thermal pipe wrap that you wrap your metal pipes so they don't freeze in the winter. Then I taped it on to the air duct with thermal tape and duct tape. I tested it and no air comes through and it barley heats up or get's cold. I shouldn't have to worry about condensation at all. I guess it's a love hate thing. I like it because it's out of my way and I can get to the control's easy without having to take my eye off the road. If needed. But for whatever reason I need to take it out I can just pull it out. I'm going to try to get those gaps taken care of but ptetty much it's snug as a bug in there. I wired it up to the local 12volt cig lighter. I am waiting for ALon's mount so I can mount and hook up my antenna. Here's How it looks so far.

No because the radio is pretty big and the fact that my little ac block off sticks out the antenna cable is up against the block off pretty damn good. I know it looks a little weird sticking out but I have no more room. I would like it to sit flush but it just won't work out that way. It only sticks out about an inch out. I have been readjusting it after I took these pics so I will continue to readjust again and again until I can come up with something better.

get a 90 for the back of the radio, that will give you a little more room.

i put my cb on the back wall of my truck between the seats.

That is the same place I installed my radio. But mine just fit in the bezel with a tiny bit of filing in the corners and completely fills the hole.
Hearing it is no problem as it's only a little muffled.I didn't / couldn't block off the a/c plenum as the radio is so big the back of it sits inside the metal duct.
