Domelight override

Okay I tried searching but didn't find anything I was looking for.
Im trying to get a on off switch to override the dome light when the doors open. So if i have the switch off, and i opened my door, my dome lights wouldn't turn on.
I was wondering how i could do that. I know id just have to run a switch in between the POS Dome light wire, but i dont know what wire it is. Any one know?

take apart your dome light....see what color the main power wire is....follow that back to the fuse panel.....splice in a toggle switch.....

I did that already, i just cut the wire that goes to the dome light (there is only 1 wire) in the roof and installed the switch on my dash with 2 wires that go back to where i cut the dome light wire So the current has to go thru the switch first.
No need to go to the fuse panel.
To access the wire just remove your sun visor driver side and some plastic and pull down on the roof thing. All the cables are on the Driver side. It Helps if you remove the dome light (plastic pops off, and 3 screws)
Good Luck (But you wont need it)

The 2000 dome wire is black/light blue and runs from the Interior Lamp Relay under the dash to the dome.

In the small Relay Box up under the dash just to right of the steering column. IIRC it's maybe 2"x2"x6". The BK/LB will come out of that box.

yeah Headliner, thanks.... been thinking of too many other things that sometimes simple words just slip out. Then again, it could be my french brain not wanting to translate properly. haha

My reason... out with this girl in the woods just looking at the stars in the bed of the truck.. we moved into the cab and when i open the door the lights of the OHC and the domelight bright as ... killed the night vision then i turned on to acc. to get the music going and all my gauges light up bright blue... so the hole time all i was thinking of how i was going to wire up all my stuff so there are no lights... for the next time. (there wasnt a next time... she didnt like the fact that i told her she will never be more important then my trucks) oh well. she was too much of a princess anyways.
