Ford chose an interesting low fuel guage

This is really random but something has been bothering me about the low fuel guage.

First of all, Ive never owned a vehicle that said "check gage" when it was low on fuel. Usually is says "low fuel" or something.

Second of all, I have yet to figure out why Ford couldnt even spell guage correctly. Im assuming this has something to do with lack of space, but still.

I know this is random but I was just wondering if anyone else found this annoying.

Actually either spelling of "gauge" or "gage" is correct..

The "Check Gage" light is a multifunction warning for low fuel level, high coolant temperature or insufficient oil pressure. Ford leaves it to you to check for the gauge that is showing a fault.

It must be language evolution because modern dictionaries accept both spellings- gage or gauge. (which you misspelled BTW).

I'd be thrilled if the gauge/gage didn't read EMPTY when there was still 5 gallons left in the tank.

It seems to be pretty hit and miss.. mine comes on with anywhere between 3 and 1.5 gallons in the tank...

Mine comes on with 5-6 gallons left which equated to about 80-100 miles of travel.

My light only came on once, & it took 18.1 gal to fill it! I usually fill when it's just above "E" (14-15 gal) 300-320 mi.

I can get about 400 highways miles before my light comes on and about 300 city miles, yeah that sounds about right.

I fill up right around the 240 mark like Zabeard. I should pack a spare can one time and just run it dry. Then I can see just how far I can go on a tank of gas lol.

it comes on wiht so much left because if you run too low on fuel you will burn out your fuel pump! the gas is what cools that pump so if you run it too low on gas it heats and fries itself
