It should be cooling itself as long as there is gas flowing. You can't burn it out with a low tank.

I once drove on the gas light from my apartment in Maryland 33 miles to my work in DC. Then, I drove home. The next day, I slept too long, and chanced it going back to work again. Well, I don't stop at gas stations at midnight in downtown, so I had faith in my humble beast of an FX4, and drove home again. I then had to drive to the gas station the following afternoon after sleeping and get gas.

Low and behold, I had like, still a gallon left.

I constantly thought about packing a small tank and driving around.

When I restart my truck that usually goes away.

But it's always on when I've got 3 or less gallons.

I never really noticed that the Check "gage" was for the gas, that is really good to know, and it has been all summer because I dont have any $$ to pay for gas except like $15 at a time. My gas needle has been scratching my left knee all summer its been so low. Go running on fumes!!!

I seen mine the other day for the first time in 5 years. At first I was like oh crap what the hell is wrong now. Then I realized it wasn't the check engine light and I just needed gas badly. I drove for about another 24 miles before I filled up and it was stilling running strong.

I fill up just about every other day, because my work buys my gas during the week, and I drive 150-200miles a day.

I should have bought a 3.0, despite how slow they are. At least I would get more than 200 miles to a tank. Although I think I need new plugs, wires, and lifters, so that might be part of my problem.
