Installing domelight with map lights

I have a 2001 Ranger with a rectangle domelight. I bought a domelight with maplights from a later ranger. I have both wires up there but the Ranger domelight with the maplights doesn't bolt right in. I thought it would be plug and play. First thing is that it has a piece that will need shaved off but what do I need to do about the wiring?

Thanks,

Yes I read over that but the domelight I'm installing is from a Ranger. I hooked up the wires where the screws are on the Ranger dome light with map light. All the lights just stay on...

I did a search and couldn't find anything on adding a Ranger Dome light with map lights to a ranger without them.

I don't have a mustang dome light.

You will need a contant wire run to the light. This can be tapped from any number of places or else ran from the battery.

No, I have a 2001 so both wires are there. In the mustang dome light mod how to you can skip directly to the last step.

I'm trying to install this dome light:

You shouldn't have needed to add any wires for the swap. The three mounting screws are the conductors: dome. map and ground.

Reason it doesn't quite fit, is that you have a reg cab. My brother has a reg cab 01 and added an explorer dome light. I believe he shaved it a little, but it just bolted right up, and has complete function w/o any more wires added.

It's the 04+ rangers that get sorta funky.

I didn't run any extra wires but I figured I could just use the wires where they were since it came from a Ranger. When I did that I got the result above...all the lights stay on. I remember in my 94 Reg cab had the same dome light and only the dome light came on when the door was open...not all three.
