Ya, I couldn't believe that the junkyard I go to is open everyday from 8-6ish. It is really nice at 8:30 in the morning on Sunday when you are in a junkyard, hearing the birds churping, no one else around, and the smell of old gas in the air. That is the time I will go from now on. They have like 1800 cars and change them out daily.

There is hardly no Rangers at my junkyard expect for like 2-3. They are so screwed up that you couldn't get a part off them. Saw one sport trac that the hood folded up like an acordian on. Then there is like 20 Explorers.

That's my cluster build thread. I had a buddy do it for me...i had no time to do it myself. I did all the switches though.

That thread should have all the info you need....even if you don't wanna do LED's in the cluster, the same thread applies to changing the color of the cluster(paint).

You can use 01 and older Explorer, 05ish(idk) and older Explorer Sport and Explorer Sport Trac clusters to get the white faced like mine and the original posters. simple plug and play...it'll all work. Silver faced is a '03 model year ranger exclusive...you can find those and they'll work as well.

Hey all, I have two questions if you would be so kind.
1st, what is that small board/chip in the top driver side corner of the cluster? Is that something i should swap if i change out the cluster?
2nd, i picked up a white face cluster really cheap and was really excited to get it but noticed that it doesn't have the 4x4 and 4x4 low lights on the front. The holes are in the back but light can't get through. Is there a quick way to fix that or is the cluster a loss if i want those lights?

No way to make that work. You need to find another 4x4 white face cluster. As for the chip, not sure what it is for, but I have swapped out clusters a few times and never changed it.

Ok, could I still use it if im not worried about the 4x4 lights for the time being or will that prevent the system from working properly?

As far as I know, that won't cause a problem with the 4x4 operation, you simply won't have the indicator lights. Should be able to determine what you're in based on the position of the 4x4 switch.

Ok thank you, Ill still probably keep an eye out for a replacement since I really don't want to forget that it is in 4x4 and chew up the joints and t-case while on the road, but it will work for now

Yep, but for the short haul, your 4x2 cluster should be fine. You probably can sell the 4x2 cluster later and get your $$ back. :)

That cluster could have come from just about any Ranger or Explorer 1995 - 2003. I'm thinking you're referring to the LCD panel... that is aftermarket. Dakota Digital maybe.
