Location of Dome Light Power Wires

So I'm about to put some LED's in for ambient lighting in my cab and would like to be able to tie into the power leads to hook up the lights to turn on whenever the dome light is on and I thought it would be easier to get it in the dash rather than running extra wires from the dome light back down. Any help is appreciated.

From what I remember, I think I took a panel off of the drivers side dash (you will see it when you open your door)

Its been a while, but I tapped into a wire there for dome light power.

Hopefully somebody else will chime in with more info.

Okay, so I pulled that panel off and used a test light to see which ones were hot. It looks as though the green/orange one is canstant power like when ever the door is open and the black/pink one only has juice whenever you roll the switch to turn on the dome light. I'm hoping someone can kinda help double check me because I don't want to clip the wrong wires.

Remember that the dome light is on a ground switched circuit.
The door switches ground to turn on and the Dash Switch may too.
There may be power at the light and in the wires going to the light, all the time so double check which wire is what, door open or switch on and then closed and off; write it down so you won't forget.

I tested it behind the dash through the little access panel. The doors may ground to turn it on, but I grounded the test light to the frame and it turned on with the wires I already mentioned.

OK then is the hot wire you chose switched by any switch ?
It could be the feed to the lights but without a switch.

Luck to your project, keep the info and pictures coming.

Hey Dewey I know this is an old thread, but what did you end up using for the ground? Did you run your ground wire to the frame? I'm running some puddle lights and I'm wiring them to my dome light, similar to how yours is set up.
