Painted the A/C guages.

Trying to get my interior to go with the blue/ red theme, to go with the guage over lays i recently put in.
So i painted the HVAC tonight. It took about 3 hours to do and was very easy. I just need to figure out how to change the color of the **** now, and the rest of the buttons.

Here are the pix.

if anyone knows how to change the green on the ****, please let me no. The green is a plastic piece that slides out, but just painting it will not do the job.\

4x4 switch and gear selector is next.

yup, you have to be very carefull to lay the paint even. If you have more paint on one side then the other then the side will be darker then the rest.
If you do it, make sure you are right under or buy a light. I keep holding mine up to the light ever 10 sec. while painting to make sure i layed the coat even and i didnt miss any spots.

very easy mod tho.

Ah thank you! I'm supposed to mail out a set of ***** to someone and I forgot!

On some models (like my 2002) the clear plastic piece isn't actually green. It looks like it is sometimes even when it isn't. When I popped mine out, they were clear with a coating on the end which I removed. I then put a layer of green glass paint followed by a layer of white.

Also it should work on older dashes as well. Check out the how to on my Cardomain site here: http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...296394&page=24

I did my AC panel also, but since replaced it with the EATC. I don't know if I still even have a picture on there anymore of what I did with the heater panel.

looks good Evan..

now quick question..that middle piece thats the piece that is green that makes the gauges look green...and the part that you painted...can you remove anythin else in there..

cuz i was plannin on laying down some translucient viynl like blue or somethin so the light would shine throught but what it looks like in the pic..it would be a PINA to lay it down there....

That would work fine and some guys have done just that. However, you need to cut a hole in the middle of your sheet to shine white light on the middle dial because that red/blue mandala pattern is painted on the face and not in the overlay.

You can use the original sheet as a template to cut your new sheet and change the whole setup with one piece of plastic and NO painting at all.

There were many different color choices at the store.
They just put a random 8 colors together in a kit.
just make sure the kit has the colors you need.

thanks for all the comments guys.

There's a couple of things.

Theatrical lighting "gels" -- colored sheets of clear material.

But also, you can use tinted "report covers". They have this little binder-thingies in office stores you can get with transparent plastic covers in various shades. That plastic is perfect for this kind of thing if you can find it.

If you go into a hobby store, you should be able to find some transparent, tinted sheets of some sort also.

The originator of this mod, $tone02, used brake light tape to tint his dash originally. I found the glass paint and used that instead because it gave me more shades. There is yellow and red brake light tape -- I don't know if there's any blue tape like that or whatever.
