Passenger side front seat back rattle. Suggestions how to fix?

I have the leather bucket seats in my Ranger. For the past year or so, either my passenger seat in the front has started rattling or I just started to notice around a year ago. Either way, it's only the seat back, not the entire seat assembly. And it only happens when the seat is empty. Does anyone know of a way to eliminate or at least lessen the rattle? It's really annoying.

take it to an upholstery shop, have them pull the covers/foam and look for something broken. i do this a lot, but more so with rattles coming from sunroof/headliners.

If there were bolts I could see and/or access where the seat back mounts to the seat bottom, I would. It's not the bolts holding the seat to the floor. Those are tight. It's coming from the seat back. When I go over bumps, If I lightly put my hand on the passenger seat back when empty, the rattle stops. No matter how hard I press on the seat bottom, it doesn't minimize the rattle.

That's not a bad idea. Might be a while before I can get around to doing that though.

I am interested to hear your findings. The back of the passenger seat of my 02 does this as well. I usually just ignore it, lol.

Has anyone responded with an answer to the seat back rattle question? I have the same thing on my truck.

I just put mine all the way back. Only way I could stop it.

Passenger Seat Rattle

I thought I was the only one with this annoying problem, it is the back of the seat shaking left to right, I've taken the seat out numerous times, set it in the back of the truck, tore the seat cover off put the seat back into the truck minus the cover and tried to end that rattling. The only way I can stop it is to pull the side lever so the seat springs down and it's fine. I'm going to go at it again and thought I would do a search to see if anyone else had the problem and knew the answer. If I figure it out I'll let everyone know

Passenger Seat Rattle Fixed

I have a 2007 ford ranger and passenger seat has 4 - 15mm bolts to hold the seat down, the two in front are right accross from each other left to right, the two in the rear are not, the rear bolt on the inside of the seat is offset and closer to the front bolts and I believe is what causes this rattle. To fix it I loosen all four bolts, utilizing the jack behind the seat extend the jack a long ways because it's going to go between the two front legs to spread them as far as they will go and then tighten the two bolts, then do the same thing on the rear bolts and that annoying rattle will be gone. I had it fixed for a long time until someone emptied a fire extinguisher inside my truck and I loosened the seats to clean under them and couldn't be bothered with anything but hours and hours of cleaning fire extinguisher crap out of everything and I mean everything..

same thing on my truck. I think it's just the way the seats mount. Not much that can be done about it imo.

I took the covering at the side of my 2000 Courier's passenger seat off and found the bolts keeping the seat and back together loose. Just tied it and gone is the rattle.

I had the same problem with my 99 ranger. There were little things wire springs that ran through the middle of the seat back as support. They had broken and rattled against the frame. If no one was sitting in it. A couple 200 lbs cable ties fixed it for my passenger seat I just ran them where the springs go and kept them slightly loose.

My driver's seat is a completely different story but I'm about to weld some new supports in there to reinforce it.
