putting a '03 armrest w/ cupholder in my '99. how do you remove the 60/40 armrest??

i have a '99 ranger ext cab xlt w/ the grey tweed 60/40 seats. The armrest pivots off the drivers seat, its the one that mounts on both sides of the armrest, not just on one side like the '97 down.

it has the compartment in the armrest with the lid that flips up to the side. No cupholder in it though. Its grey, and in perfect shape. Clean and latch works perfect. If anyone would be interested in it, let me know.

the current one in my '99 is in great shape but i wanted one with the cupholder in it.

anyway, so i just won a armrest from a '03 ranger, on ebay. it has the cupholder in it. i will be installing this in my '99.

question is, how do you remove the armrest in a '99 ranger with the 60/40 seats?

the '03 armrest and the '99 armrest both have the mounts on each side.

anyone know how to remove it?? the pivot mounts are hidden by the hinge covers..

only way i could get mine off was to break the plastic covers off the arms that hold the armrest up. then there are to torx bolts holding it in. I would pick up some new covers to put back on. Mine were in 5 peices by the time i got them off.

this is the '98 up center armrest on the 60/40 seats. it is mounted to the drivers seat and has mounts on both sides.. all the armrests on the 60/40 seats from '98 up mount this same way..

to avoid confusion some of you refer to this as the "console" but its more of an armrest/console.

does anyone know how do remove the armrest properly without breaking anything??

i would take the seat out and look at it try to get the covers off without breaking them (there has to be a way) and then there should be torx bolts on each side. but im not sure when i had my seat out i didnt look at that part.

The plastic covers should pop off, but I'm not too sure.

There was no way to tighten the torque bolt with that plastic piece on there.

I know its a different year/style and all, but the side plastic pieces on my 04 were held on by little tabs that I popped off

Correct, 3 of 4 bolts under the seat. Un-Velcro the seat cover in the back and armrest and bracket will just slide out.

My 03 60/40 completely unbolted from underneath.
Take your time, take out the driver’s seat, and the arm rest has its own bracket.

Yep. There's a youtube video. No cutting required. Just remove the seat with a 15 mm. Unclip the electrical connector with a screwdriver, then use a 10 mm to remove the 3 bolts underneath the seat holding the bracket. Unclip the fabric (no cutting). Undo the velcro on the back, and slide the whole arm rest off with the mounts. My dogs like to move back and forth between the back and the front, and one can't jump the console. Also, I sleep in the front sometimes on long trips so I took out the console which is in the way, and also removed the seat belt stiff things that stab you when you lie down. You can cut them off with a knife or use a T50 to remove the belt and cut the rigid sleeve off. Only the driver's seat needs to be removed to do both.
