1998 Ford Ranger 3.0 Automatic to Manual swap

Hey I’m Kyle and new to the forum. I have a 1998 Ford Ranger 3.0 Automatic 4x4 and the engine decided to take a crap on me! So I found a 2000 Ford Ranger 3.0 5 speed 4x4. I want to take engine, transmission, steering column and ecm out of the 2000 and put it in the 1998. My question is will I have to take the PATS out of the 2000 and put it in my 1998 that doesn’t have PATS?

Welcome to the forum

Yes, 1999 and up V6 Rangers all had PATS
Need the PATS module above glove box, PATS transceiver will be in the column and the correct key cylinder for PATS keys
Also need the wiring for PATS in the dash

And the 2000 engine wiring harness, 1999 and up use 2 wire Cam sensor, 1998 was 3 wire, totally different sensors

Might be an easier swap to find a 1998 3.0l manual trans computer, no PATS and no wiring changes
Swap the 3 wire cam sensor/synchro in the 1998 3.0l engine over to the 2000 3.0l engine, or get a new 3 wire cam sensor/synchro

2WD or 4x4 doesn't matter for computer
You can use your current 1998 auto trans computer for the swap, it will work fine, will just have the CEL(check engine light) staying on because of missing trans solenoids

https://www.car-part.com/ is a good place to look for used parts
"Computer box engine" is the part you want to look for

Skip "area", just use your Zipcode

Needs to be 1998 only computer, not 1997 or 1999, but plug and play
