2000 Ford Ranger sputtering after coming to a stop in hot weather.
Hello to all. 2000 Ford Ranger Extendedcab, 4x2,3.0L with 239k miles has been sputtering
in very warm outside air temperatures (Above 85 degrees outside air
temp). I have not had any issues like this when it's cooler.
After I did some research, I came up with two possible explanations:
1. TFI with thin film on it is affected with hot temps.
2. TSB # 0152 (due to limited resources, I am unable to be able to post the
TSB here. Main points will be mentioned here).
Failed system: Electrical System.
I get all the symptoms mentioned in the TSB with one exception. Instead of
the speedometer being erratic (listed in TSB), the oil gauge is extremely
erratic. The TSB does not mention heat being a factor which puts a little
doubt in my mind as this being the actual culprit and is reason for my 95%
confidence factor.
DTC's listed in the TSB are: P0500, P0501, P1721, P0176, P1000, ABS DTC 9,
rabs DTC 16 and delay. All of these are associated with symptoms listed. I
am thinking what the TSB says is the exact source of my truck's issue.
What can I do about it? Where could I find the fix actions? TSB nor DTC's have any
corrective actions. Anyone else experiencing the same issue? Am I even on the right track in my troubleshooting?
I have had to deal with this over the past few weeks with it happening 2 or 3 times per
day and even though I've probably lost some weight in sweating alot, my
frustration level is extremely high.
Thank you for taking time to read my post. I hope this discussion or any
comments will help reduce the teeth grinding frustration level in someone
else having the same issue.
