2010 XLT 4x4

Just picked this up. Paid a little too much but in excellent shape with 103K on it and hoping to have it for many more years. Needed a 4x4 anyway LOL and a PU just adds to the deal... Have a 2013 Escape as well so familiar with the brand and like it.

Welcome to the forum

PU's need 4WD since the back is so light without a load, they slip and slide, lol
Your 2010 has rear disc brakes which was a good update by Ford

Make sure to use the 4WD selector once a month to shift to 4high and then 4low, and then back to 2WD, don't have to drive it just switch transfer case to those selections once a month, sitting in the driveway
This keeps the electric shift motor's brushes clean the the worm gear and wheel lubed

People often only select 4WD after its been unused for 10 months and then it doesn't work............when you actually NEED IT

You will have a 4.0l SOHC engine in 2010 4x4 Ranger, the only engine available in 4WD Rangers that year
And if an automatic a 5R55E transmission
Manual trans was M5OD-R1HD

You can go here to download PDF owners manual: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/

These are good to have because you can SEARCH them much easier than the Book style

Thank you RonD for all of the good information, especially about the 4x4 switch.

Dont feel too bad, I probably paid a touch too much for mine 4yrs ago too, but it was ford certified with warranty....which as it turns out was well worth it! After having it for about 5k the slave cal went bad, so it ended up costing me $100 for dealer to fix, mechanic replaced slave, clutch disc, flywheel , and pressure plate all under warranty... My guess is that was the reason previous owner traded it in...
