To the best of my knowledge, the upstream and downstream sensors are the same, the only difference is wire length.

The downstream sensor usually has a longer wire, you might want to try that.

The O2 sensor part is the same on all Ranger O2s, up or downstream, the different part numbers are for wire length

So have them pull a different part number to get the longer wire you want

My upstream and downstream sensors were different, and the prices reflected that.

Regardless, the wire and plug extending from the upstream should be about 10-12 inches long. I just picked up mine from Rock Auto.

Has the transmission ever been out of the truck? The wiring harness is secured to the engine via a bolt/loop on the top of the bellhousing under the water neck. If it's in the wrong spot, that might be part of the cause.

This Sensor is the one I used for the Upstream.

There is no difference between O2 sensors themselves just the wire lengths, there are newer Wide Band O2 sensors, but they were never used on Rangers
If downstream are cheaper use those
