86 Ford Ranger 4x4 2.9

I have a 86 ranger with the 2.9 v6. I was driving one day going up hill and lost power. A mechanic said that it was the timing, well I set the timing and I am still unable to drive the truck because there's not enough power. When I release the clutch while pressing the gas, the engine will only rev to a certain rpm then it cuts out and cuts off. I am lost and not sure what the problem could be.

start pullin the motor apart. start with spark (plugs and wires) then make sure your motor is getting fuel. or enough. but if the timing is bad you might need to re do it again to makje sure you got it right. u might be better off doing a 5.0 or a 4bt. but welcome! lets see some pics of your rig, that is my fav era of the ranger.

Ok, I will try that. I already did the spark plugs, but not the wires.
