I have a 1998 ford ranger Has 167000 on it I have Taken good care of this truck it was hit in a hit and run the other night in the very back quarter of the bed and pushed into another vehicle while parked the damage is to the bed and bumper and both tail lights i would like to keep this truck as it runs very good I think they are going to total it any suggestions the engine is a V6 4.0

Yes, the labor involved to repair would be too much, so it will most likely be totaled

You should be able to buy the truck back from insurance company, negotiate, have any recent receipts of things you have done to the 1998 Ranger, that all counts to the VALUE of the Ranger, i.e. tires, brakes oil change, it all adds up
And have some print outs of similar Rangers and other small trucks(Tacomas are good ones) that are for sale in your area, i.e. replacement cost
All this adds up to the settlement value, and then you can negotiate buy back, for the POS wrecked truck that they are lucky to even get an offer on, lol



You would need to remove the bed, 6 bolts, and 3 screws on the filler, unplug the tail light wires, its not that heavy, but you will need a friend to help move it
Then have a look at the frame and leaf springs, also the axle, none of these are too expensive to replace, its the labor to do it that costs the $$$

If the frame is bent it may be able to be straightened or replaced, the Ranger rear frame is a separate part and not hard to find
1993-2011 Rangers all used the same 6ft bed, so they are also not hard to find, in regular or stepside, your choice, and sometimes you can even find a color match, lol
And they will often comes with tail lights and tail gate
Bumpers are users choice, also not hard to come by
