Back breaks
Back breaks
I have a 1991 ranger 2wd 6c yesterday my back shoes locked up on my drum. The brake cylinder is shot on one side and shoes wore to the metal where I seen sparks. I'm by no means a mechanic would it be best to just replace cylinder, shoes, drums on both sides and start fresh ? My brake pedal also is going to the floor which I thought was odd.
Slave cylinder piston on one of the rear brakes is leaking pressure so pedal will go to the floor as the fluid runs out
You need to get slaves and shoes and Drums for both sides, then you can take back one of the drums if "other side is OK"
Look at pictures here to see if you have 9" or 10" brake/drums on the rear: https://www.ranger-forums.com/drivet...m-size-135609/
Very easy to "see" the difference
Do NOT MIX the parts from the two sides, there is a left and right difference
Take pictures after drum is off on each side, it will really help on reassembly, take lots they are FREE
Wipe parts down then take another picture, springs/parts are often color coded, but get covered with brake dust
There is a "star wheel" on the lower part of the assembly, and a rubber plug on the back side that can be remove to access this star wheel, if brake shoes are worn down too much then you won't be able to pull off the drum until you "back off" the star wheel, brake shoes have dug into the metal of the drum so it now has a ridge on it.

So star wheel will turn one way easily, but not the other way, and to get drum off you want to go "the other way", so you need two screwdrivers, one to push back on the holder bar and the other to turn the star wheel
