Is yours an extended cab?

Should be 9 inch.

Usually only 10 inch standard if its a 4.0, 4x4, or extended cab.

Best bet would be to measure but the two look quite a bit different. 9" ones usually have ribs/fins cast into them and the 10" ones are smoother.

9":

10":

The size (in metric) is stamped on the drum, or just use the pic above. Check your parts at the store, I have bought rebuild kits twice and both times they came with mixed parts for 10" and 9" in the same box.

new parts

The new drum I purchased doesn't fit over the new shoes, I have no room for adjustment. I assume that if I bought 10" shoes, then it stands to reason to buy a 10" drum. Right? Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum

1997 could have 9" or 10" you will have to look at the drum
With fins = 9"
No fins = 10"

To bring up an old question, This can be misleading because I have a 9in drum with no fins. Measure the Inside Diameter of the drum or it is stamped in it like mine. Left top of pic. Or a 9in drum will measure exactly 10in outside to outside. Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for the info

Never run across that myself
Wonder if those are the stock drums?
I know you can get no fin 9" drums for Rangers, "Ford Performance parts" sells them

Any other part numbers on them that cross reference to a 3rd party or Motorcraft(ford)
See a 1126 and the a W-...........

I know this is old but I believe my 1993 4x4 4.0 has 9in rear brakes

Can have either
You need to look

But 4.0l extended cab "should have" 10"

9" drums have fins: https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ine=1346709884

10" drums are smooth: https://www.ranger-forums.com/attach...ine=1346709884
