Hello 96 Ford Ranger Problems
Hello cptkirko here I have a 96 Ford Ranger xlt.I get in the truck to go to town and it ran fine turned it off in town, and it wouldn't start. It acted like it wanted to and finally it did with much cranking.I though i was almost out of gas.So i pulled it into gas station and filled it up.Tried o start again no start just cranking and trying but no start. So i had it towed home and put the charger only clicking now so i took the starter off and had it checked. The starter is good.I bought a new starter solenoid installed it.It starts up and I turn it off and try to restart and same thing no start.I replaced the fuel pump with a new one again it started and turned it off and then it wouldn't start.I then replaced the fuel filter and again it started and then it wouldn't start.I'm all out of ideas except for the MAF sensor I haven't tried yet to clean it. Any ideas :)
thanks kirk

Hello! Cptkirk here
Thanks for responding to my message.I have a 1996 ford Ranger xlt. The motor is a v6 4.0. and is gasoline.I replaced the fuel pump and now my fuel gauge works which is a plus but its not the fix fore the issue im having. The fuel filter was needing changed also.Today im going to check the MAF sensor and clean it.I might go ahead and change out the temp sensor also.Any ideas would be great ty \\

Welcome to the Forum. Sorry you are having issues.
From your post, it sounds like you've eliminated the battery as the culprit.
Before you go buy new parts, check the connections on your starter and look for corrosion. When you start the truck, if there is just a click, but no crank then its possible it is a solenoid issue because the starter bendix is not firing. Since you replaced the solenoid, but are still having the problem the next place to check would be the wire leads. The ground may have corrosion on it.
I had the same issue a while back. Fixing the ground wire and replacing the power wire solved my issue.
Best of luck!
