Hello from the STL

Hi everybody. Just purchased a 2005 Ranger a little over a month ago. I've been looking for one in reasonably good shape for some time and this one fell into my lap.
It has a few creature comforts, but I'm putting my 'wants' on the truck. I've already upgraded the stereo and speakers, but nothing else has been started.
I don't have pics yet, but I'm starting my mods on Monday with Line-X'ing the bed, over the rails. I was going to do the step bars, but they were just too far gone so I removed them and pitched them just tonight.
So, I used my old truck (and now subsequently, this one) for parades as a 'Chase vehicle' for a parade group I'm in charge of. We have two small groups of about 15 each who dress up either as motorcycle police who ride Honda 50's, or a SuperFriend who rides a 50cc Chinese four-wheeler. The truck is used generally to pick up the 4-wheelers as there hasn't been one parade where they haven't stopped running for one reason or another.

My mods upcoming are:
  • Line-X the bed
  • Replace the headliner (with Suede!)
  • Recover the ripped up seats
  • Craft a Custom Headache Bar
  • Install crazy lights on the Headache Bar
  • Install strobes to 'Police up' the truck for parade use
  • Create a place to install my police light bar
  • Find a home for my siren/PA for the parades

My 14 year-old daughter has already laid claim to the truck as 'hers' when she turns 16, so it'll give me an excuse to get another one (or a *new* one) when the time comes. I do love projects and when she claims it, it should be close to complete...

I'll be posting pics of the truck on here as the mods are happening. I'm really anxious to work with the fabricator on the headache rack. I'm expecting that thing to be frigging cool.

Glad you guys are out here. I've been trying to figure out how to do the overhead console and have only done a bit of research, but will likely be doing that addition here in the next year or so...

Welcome to the forum

2005 was a good year for Rangers, well, they all were, lol.

What engine did you get?
2.3l Duratec, 3.0l Vulcan, 4.0l SOHC

2WD or 4x4

Manual or auto

So, the '05 has the 4.0, with automatic and 4wd.

I've already installed the suede on the headliner (looks better than expected) and am working on installing the lights and controls for the head/tail lamps. Also had my bed line-x'ed and it's perfect. Am also installing a backup camera since my stereo has that option; thought I should take advantage of that. A friend of mine is working on the headache bar and when I get it back I'll post some photos. It's going to have lights galore on it! Can't wait!

I am wanting to install a center console though. Any ideas on fitment for a 2005 Ranger? Which years of Explorers would fit my year of truck? I've wandered around the forum, but haven't found my solution.

Thoughts?

Hve the bed bar back and lights go on it great. Out for paint by a buddy of mine and should have it back in a couple of weeks after he finds the time to get it done. No hurry anyway. It's cold as hell here.

Have lights for it to shine in front/sides and to the rear. I use this truck as a support vehicle for a parade group that I'm in so it also allows for the install of an old, early 80's police light bar that I kick on for the parades. In addition it has a badass siren with PA. Really funny when I scare my neighbors with it.

Because of the use in the parade, I've also installed white and amber high-vis led emergency lighting in the front and tail lights. When I light it completely up, everything flashes, including the light bars. Looks like a Christmas tree...

Am currently trying to purchase seats out of a 2000 explorer that are completely trashed, but the motor works for moving the seat and it has a center console that I'm going to refinish and install as well. Found some great information on here about the right paint to use, but had to locate the color name for the SEM brand of interior flexible paint; Medium Dark Flint (Interior Trim Code: RF). Paint is SEM 15163. Buying from Amazon today, knowing that I'm going to be using it in the next few months.

Once the seats and console are completed, I'm not sure what I want to do next. Haven't yet made up my mind... possibly some front/rear bumpers?
