Hi I'm Jeff

My Ranger is a 1999 XL with a 4 cylinder Jasper aftermarket engine after the original blew up at 150,000 miles. And a rebuilt auto transmission after the original lost reverse. So that $13k I paid for it 22 years ago wasn't such a good deal. But it's going to have to last. I lost the radiator a couple weeks ago and when I removed it noticed the radiator support was rusted almost through. I got a new one from PartsGeek.com. Now I wait for a body mount to put it back together. I'll be posting a pic of something I removed with the fenders that I can't identify. So thanks in advance. Jeff

Welcome to the forum

Reads like a good deal
$13,000 / 22 years is $591 a year or just shy of $50/month, that's a pretty low cost of ownership for any vehicle, and thats if it is worth $0 now

New engine and trans cost, say $6,000, so $19,000 over all that's still only $72/month at $0 end value, if its worth $3,000 now then it was only $60/month to have a working Ranger for 22 years

Not seeing a bad deal here

US average cost to own a new vehicle is $4,394 per YEAR($360/month), that's just the vehicle cost, i.e. depreciation and repairs, not insurance, gas or oil, just to have it sitting in the driveway, lol

Yea my radiator support is rusting pretty badly, i can leave it for a while though. Sucks to hear about the engine and trans. Although the trans probably could have been fixed rather than full rebuild. Still you own the vehicle and not paying interest to someone else right! Welcome to the forum!

Hi Glaze77, The engine and trans were inconvenient when they failed true but it'll be my last vehicle. I can't imagine getting rid of it. It hurts if I try.
