Ignition locks with power/ unlocks when battery disconnected
Ignition locks with power/ unlocks when battery disconnected
Need some help here - not a mechanic but able to follow instructions.
I have a 2010 Ranger. This morning the key would not turn in the ignition. I tried turning the steering wheel the opposite of the locked position, wiggling the key, lubing the lock, lubing the key, tried the spare key, tapping the key in the ignition with a rubber mallet. Finally, I removed the covers to get a look. Before doing so, I disconnected the battery. With the covers off, I put the key in and tried turning it and it worked. I thought the lube must have penetrated so I put everything back together, reconnected the battery and the ignition was locked again. Disconnected the battery, unlocks. So, I can at least say it isn't a mechanical issue with the tumbler thing.
Is this likely an ignition switch issue or another electrical issue along the path?
