Just bought my first truck!

I've been looking at used trucks for quite awhile now and after doing my homework on used pickups I decided that I wanted either a Ford Ranger or Mazada B Series (same truck from what I understand). So, on Saturday there was a truck for sale on the side of the road near my home. I called the owner, took for it a test drive, and bought myself a 1999 Mazda B4000 with 100K on it. I've included some pictures of it below.

The previous owner says it needs an oil change but I'm wondering if there is anything else, in terms of service, that I need to be aware of and thinking about like a timing belt change or something else that should be checked on an older truck? I appreciate your input.

Welcome to the site, that's a nice looking truck you bought.

As to anything other than the oil, you may want to change out the spark plugs and wires, maybe the O2 sensors, also check all of your fluid levels to make sure they are topped off.

I say all this, and I don't even do it on my truck.

Welcome Traveler. Im new here myself. I have an 08 Ranger that I special ordered. It is sitting on the dealers lot but the paperwork has not caught up with it. Drag. You have a great looking truck, enjoy it.
I couldnt help but notice the snow capped mountains in the background of one of your pics, Awesome view.

Welcome...

kool truck. man you'll enjoy the hell out of it. That first one wether it is used or new will always remain special to you. You said about a 100K miles correct? I'd be looking into getting a Tune up. It's pretty close on the milage as far as scheduled maintnence goes. Welcome and enjoy your first truck man.

Good choice of truck!

At 100k with "unknown" history? I'd replace the differential fluids (go synthetic), t-case fluid, tranny fluid, coolant, serpentine belt (get a Gatorback) thermostat, air filter, plugs (no Bosch, use Autolite or Motorcraft double platinums) and plug wires and PCV valve (inspect tube and elbows for cracking- a common sourse of vaccum leaks).

It has a timing chain, not a belt.

Some years had noisy timing chains, but there was a tensioner change that corrected it. Would be nice to know if yours has already been done; but if not - you'll hear it. It's not a typical DIY job, though some guys take it on. I turned down an Explorer 4.0 timing chain tensioner upgrade (bad rattle) side job, simply because I didn't want to futz with all the gear alignment complexity (need a template, and I have no experience with the 4.0).

Enjoy your new ride, and welcome. You've come to the right place.
