Nice looking Ranger, not RED, but still looks good

The 2001 was first year for the 4.0l SOHC engine in a Ranger, also first year for Live Axle up front, always locked front hubs

The 2 long chain tensioners were an issue in the 2001-2003 4.0l SOHC's, they could fail and cause timing chain to break its guide(engine needs to be pulled to repair this)
These 2 tensioners should be changed with Motorcraft only brand every 100k miles or if you don't have a history of when they were last changed change them now
Not hard to do, both are accessible

The 1998-2011 Ranger 4x4s used a propeller joint(CV type joint) on the transfer case for front drive shaft, these would wear out, you would hear a "clicking" noise when driving, even in 2WD, and time to change it

Nice looking Ranger; not DarkBlue, but still looks good!
Ditto on the TimingTensioners, best done before you hear any rattle!
Consider changing the FactoryPlastic ThermoStatHousing to an aluminum version.
Consider changing the FactoryPlastic Radiator to an all aluminum version.
Change ALL the fluids: Brakes, Steering, Diffs, TransCase, Tranny, Engine, Coolant...
Become OCD about Engine OIL & Tranny ATF changes.
Again a good looking truck!

If the Overdrive Light was blinking, you dodged a bullet. That's the check transmission light, and means that the transmission was having an issue.

If the transmission was just rebuilt and the O/D Off light is flashing, they did something wrong.
