New 2000 XLT owner
Just bought a 2000 XLT 3.0 5spd. I will drive it for awhile until my 15yr old son gets his licence. It has 80k on it and it pings going uphill. Read the threads on this and plan on trying some of the fixes.
Clean MAF
Check vacuum hose on air flow sensor
Seafoam
Check P/N on coil for recall
Go to colder spark plugs
Go to 180 deg thermostat
Reroute water hoses away from intake manifold
Change Plug wires.
Thanks to everyone who posted about pinging.

Update... I have had the truck for a few weeks.
Pinging is alot better - sprayed the MAF with electronic cleaner and added Lucas to gas. The air cleaner was also not snapped down.
It was really hard to shift when cold, it had regular gear oil in the transmission. Removed and replaced with MERCON ATF and it shifts like butter.
Was also getting door ajar warning. Did a search, sprayed with lithium grease, fixed.
