Hi guys I’m looking for a little help on finding a remanufactured transmission for my 1997 4.0 Ranger 4x4 automatic. Transmission code “D” 5R55E
TAG: 97 GT LCA 1. I looked on Rockauto.com but they are only showing TAG: XL2P-DA 4x4 and
TAG: 97GT-MCA rwd with and without overdrive drum sensor. My question is what is the difference between the different tag numbers and which one do I need? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys
By the way I called 2 local Ford dealerships and they both said that the transmission I need is obsolete and they cannot get one

Ford dealer should know this, the TSB came out WITH the first 5R55Es, lol.
The 5R55E started off with an overdrive sensor but it was eliminated and computer software for it was never used, that's the difference in '96/'97/'98 models, they had the sensor installed and computer software never used it........... but the voltage the sensor generated could cause issues in computer, so the fix was to cut sensor's wires, so no more voltage
You will have 2 wires for the OD sensor on your 1997 wiring harness for your 1997 5R55E, cut off connector, bare the wire ends and twist them together, seal connection with ???
Read TSB here: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...bility.420457/
Then you can use any 5R55E as a replacement, they should all used the same 16 pin main wiring connector thats on your 1997 Ranger
