Hello all, looking for some info on the 2.3l transmission band adjustments. If anyone is “real” knowledgeable about this topic, please respond.

Best Regards,

What YEAR Ranger?

There were two different 2.3l engine used in Rangers
1983-1997 2.3l LIMA Rangers use A4LD and 4R44E automatics
2001-2011 2.3l Duratec Ranger used 5R44E

They are basically the same transmission but slight differences

If 2001 or newer Google: 5r44e band adjustment

load of videos on adjusting bands, there really is only one way and one setting for each

Does the OD light flash?
That means there is a transmission issue and a Code has been set that can tell you whats wrong

Its a 1996 with the 4r44e. I have done the band adjustment correctly. But no change in shifting quality and still no OD or final drive. I have no codes, and the light is not flashing.

Its a 1996 with the 4r44e. I have done the band adjustment correctly. Replaced fluid and filter, but no change in shift quality and still no OD or final drive. No codes and no flashing light. OD button on shifter does works but no change when used.

Then its most likely a mechanical issue not a solenoid issue which means rebuild
Its possible the valve is stuck in the valve body, so solenoid is working, so no code, but valve isn't

Watch this video, it explains the OD band/brake and other places that can prevent shift to OD:
