New Owner of High Mileage Ranger
Hey y'all!
I've wanted a Ranger since high school, and picked up a 2006 Ranger yesterday. 237,000 miles on the 2.3 Duratec, with the 5-speed manual, naturally in fleet-sales Oxford white. I love how small and basic it is, and it's been well maintained, so I'm hoping to carry the torch even further with her. I'm an apprentice electrician, and bought it unknowingly from another local electrician, so these seem to have a good rapport with tradesmen at least in northern California. Picked up a lot of info from this site already, so I'm glad to be here! Cheers!

Welcome to the forum
2006 Ranger will have the full digital dash, called an HEC(hybrid electronic cluster)
Google: ford hec dealer test mode
2001 and up Ranger 4cyl have PATS(passive anti-theft system), this means they use transponder keys, no batteries needed, so its good to have a backup key thats been programmed to start the truck, just in case
Most locksmiths can cut a new key and then use a laptop plugged into the computer in the truck to added the new key
There is no "work around" for PATS, if you lose your only key, vehicle will need to be towed to locksmith or Ford dealer to get a new key made and added, or most Mobile Locksmiths can come out and do the same thing, just costs $$
So best to have a working spare key, lol
2.3l Duratec is a good engine, a turbo version is used in the new 2019/20 Rangers
It has a PCV Valve that is a pain to change, in a Ranger, but it should be changed every 2 years, drivers side mid-engine down low, access thru drivers side wheel well
There is also a coolant line in the back of the head, very hard to access, since you have a manual transmission the clutch will have to be replaced at some point, when transmission is out to do the clutch, replace that coolant line and fitting just as preventative maintenance
