Howdy! I just bought a '97 Ranger 4.0 v6 4x4 with a 4"lift on her. I've never driven a lifted truck before, and I'm experiencing a bit of a sway, and when it's windy is really bad, especially on the highway... I'm curious if this is normal... I just got new break pads, New wheel bearings, and my mechanic said everything else looks good. Nothing is rusted, and the shocks/springs and lift kit look fairly new... I'm glad I found this forum, as Ruby is my new baby and I intend on keeping her for awhile. I'll post a picture soon. Thanks in advance for any advice :-)

 

replace all of the front axle rubber bushings with polyurethane including the radius arms

they are the first to fail , as they experience the most stress constantly

If you have smaller rims and taller tires(4" lift was the clue, lol) then you will have sidewall flex, or sway.
People with trucks tend to get tallest tires they can without changing rims, so..............

Now you can increase air pressure a bit but tall sidewalls are just going to sway a bit.

Ever wonder why people use "low profile" tires, because of less sidewall flex so better handling.

So larger rims with same size(diameter) tires will help with sway, expensive but will help

 

Yea I have 15" rims with 32x11.50R15LT tires on them..

 

So 15" solid and 17" that can flex

Just push truck side to side to see how much flex there is in the side walls.

You can try higher air pressure but that is alot of flex to overcome.

Flex is great for bumpy roads, sand and rock crawling but like all specific use things there will be drawbacks
