i heard something about some ranges having 2 gas tanks, like the big trucks. my 93 in the box has a pushed up area in the corner for the filler neck to fit thru, but at the back it has an identical pushed up area. maybe some had a tank instead of a spare, or ford thought about it and decided not too?

Ive always noticed that but i have never really paid much attention to what it was there for but that is really interesting now that you bring it up.

i think 2 tanks would be kinda nice, fill up once every 2 weeks or so, but thats a lot of weight for a ranger.

i have been thinking about swapping from the 20 gallon to the 16 gallon tank because it is not as long... this would allow me to push my rear axle forward 6-8 inches!

i believe the extra length in the ext cab tanks is more towards the front. I think the back half of it is the same between the two tanks. It is shaped to fit in a certain spot, so if you got the smaller one, you couldn't push it forward.

the gen 1 trucks ('82-'88) had a twin-tank option, it may have started around '86. it relocated the spare tire to the box. when the exterior body was redesigned, they used the same stamping for the inside of the pickup box, yes, from the inside the bare box appears to have twin-fuel fill locations. my truck in a gen 3 ('93-'97) i dont know if there all still that way to this day. milage wise, my 4.0 s/c 4x4 will get at very best 19.5 highway, average of 17 , and not more than 15 during the winter. i have 3.73 gears and stock 235-15 tires. i beleive my tank is a 20 gallon. most ive ever put in it was 15 gallons. i usually fill up at around 200 on the tripmeter.

That answers my question, thanks alot for that little bit of info. I think 2 tanks would be neat.
