3in exhaust?

well i'm tired of my stock exhaust and got a flowmaster given to me and have a bunch of 3in stainless that id like to use with the flowmaster, so what i was thinkin was to unbolt the exhaust from the cat back (already have the muffler and tubing that goes over the axel out) and cut the stock pipe just a little bit back from the stock flange so i can weld the 3in to that to bolt it back up and then put my flowmaster in the place that the stock one was and then go 3in all the way out, will it hit anything goin over the axel or should i clear it? has anyone done this before? if so could i see some pics please and possibly a clip of how it sounds

there was a guy on here who had done exactly that, and it was hands down the best sounding exhaust I have heard on a ranger, there is a video of it kicking around here somewhere. Closest to a V8 I have heard. Ill have a look for it.

3" would be too large a diameter for a motor like the 4.0 imo... you will probably lose some grunt down low.

2.5 would be the largest you should go on a 4.0 that isn't making any extra power. I have 2.5" piping and it made it a good bit deeper. and i didn't notice any power loss (at least not in the seat of my pants)
