Lead weights to stop throttle linkage play

I recently replaced my throttle linkage cable (separate post) only to find that I still had a sloppy gas pedal caused by play in the throttle cable linkage.

I've read how guys have used zip ties to close the gap and reduce the gas pedal play.

But I think I have found a much better alternative using these:

They cost about $4.50 out the door from Walmart.

It's simple to do. I suggest this procedure:

1. Push the drivers seat as far back as it will go and clean up the drivers side floor as your back will be on it.

2. Using a flashlight, check to see how much of a gap you have in the linkage:

3. Now choose a lead weight size that matches your needs and using a flat head screw driver pry open the lead weight gap to accommodate the braided cable on the throttle linkage.

4. Place the lead weight on the cable and crimp it with pliers.

That baby is not coming off, and there is no play in it either, unlike the zip tie solution.

You now have a gas pedal that gives instant response to your foot commands.

Neat imagination! Never thought about using weights...that's a really neat solution to the problem.

Definitely a nicer method than the zip ties.
