LED Door Locks`

I saw this some where on here but I was woundering how hard it would to convert manual locks to an led style lock that flashes green when its unlocked and red when locked..... Then make those locks lock and unlock with a key fob... Is that at all possible?

What do you mean, like a security system with an LED flashing on the dash? Find a security system that has an LED flashing on the dash.

Please clarify :)

you dont have a key fob now, so id assume you dont have PATS? Or a central security module. so id say no, you cant do the LED Lock mod.

GEt a Hornet Security system with the central locking system and power actuators for your doors. It was only like 150 bucks and it comes with a keyfob and what not. Not too sure where I got it though. Maybe a quick google search is in your future :)

Yeah. Powered actuators connected to a small board under the dash gave me power options for my door locks when they were push to lock when I bought it.

They worked very well. At the time, I had an alarm installed with the actuators to sorta kill 2 birds while the door skin was apart, make that 3 birds, cause I painted and applied new red vinyl to the door's fabric inserts at the sam time. ( Something I'll never consider doing again, and would not recommend to anyone)

IIRC, it was pretty close to Ranger09's price at 150. Good deal IMO. And worth their weight in good for the convenience of powered locks.

Im pretty sure an '02 has PATS - try making a normal copy of your key and starting your truck with it - if it wont start.. means you have PATS.

That is actually a very cool mod. LEDs are always good for mods.

False, my truck doesn't have PATS and its a 05 but we had a 01 F350 and it had pats. We made a copy key and it didn't let you put it in Drive.

i assume pats is the chip in the key?

The problem with 07~09 Rangers is that they no longer have a dedicated external wire for the Theft light that can be tapped to flash the door LEDs. As written, this mod works only for 2001~2006.

PATS is Passive AntiTheft System and it makes use of the RFID key.

No. The split is by model year, not actual build date.

*****WARNING: TEASER ALERT!*****

so i was laying in bed this morning, after night shift, thinking about led switches i am getting off of ebay for my truck, and then my mind wandered to this thread... and how i couldn't do this mod... then it dawned on me... there is a VERY SIMPLE way to do this mod, that anyone can do to any vehicle... as long as it has automatic locks, and even if it has the manual ones, it can be done (as long as there is a keyhole, so that you can actually unlock it) except locking from the inside becomes an issue...

so i am not going to describe how to do this just yet... although i am 99% sure this will work. can someone please help me find the actual led's used in this? red/green and ones that hopefully already have housings that will fit in the holes...

meanwhile i will make sure this will work :D gotta do a little research

also, my method, at this point, is looking like it will cost around $10 per door, but take a little bit of labour...

The LED size I used was T - 1 3/4 (also known as 5mm) to fit in the bezel which is a slightly loose fit in the lock pin hole - I ended up gluing the bezels with a dab of silicone seal to stabilize them.

You can get these items from many sources. Mine came from AllElectronics.com

T 1 3/4 LED CLIP, ONE PIECE | AllElectronics.com
BI-POLAR LED, 2 LEGS | AllElectronics.com

The above LEDs are overpowered by direct sunlight so they are most effective in shadow or at night. If you can find the equivalent in a higher output version, that would be better.
