Lining your running boards?

So I was thinking about repainting my black running boards but then I thought I might as well apply some kind of protective liner instead like Herculiner/Rhinoliner/LineX, that way they wouldn't get scratched anymore, and they would stand up alot better to these Ohio winters with all the salt on the roads. Has anyone ever done this?

Here's a pic of one of mine:

I went the Rhinoliner way and it didn't make a lot of difference. I just sand and paint mine in the spring and fall and touch up in between. I also use a good rust converter befor e sanding. I put the OEM running boards on my truck just because you can pretty much paint them forever.
