Maybe make the engine bay adaptable to any size motor.. Say if you had the 2.3L and you want the 4.0L the mounts would be the same, just drop it in and put a tranny on it.. That would be cool... Same goes if they made a diesel option and a V8 option.. Make those universal!!!
Make the engine bays as big as they did with the old bronco's and such

I remember having to crawl into the engine bay and sit on the wheel well to get into the engine of my old bronco when i had to work on it.. if I tried it with one of the 4.0's in my current ranger.. yeah, I wouldnt ever be able to do that.. and im 6'2" to boot!

I would love to see a few more inches added to the extended cab. I don't have a need for the tru 4 door but a little bigger extended cab would be great then you can still get the 6 ft. bed but still have room. And make the back seats a little bigger as well. Of course a 5.0 would be the greatest. I can add everything else for pretty cheap.

if you need the 6' bed get an extended cab, otherwise 4' bed and crew cab.

thats my opinion.

Aren't our ranger beds 6.5'??? I come from full size land...and they are 6.5'. I'm referring to the same length bed that a HUGE majority of us have. My truck, your truck, Triggers truck.....as well as 98% of the site have.

I think there NEEDS to be the option of having the regular 6' or 6.5' bed avaliable on the crew cab. Just like they have now on the F150 Supercrew. Sure...some folks just want a 4' bed....but some others, like me, need a 6' bed. Put a toolbox on a 4' bed....you now have a 2' bed! lol.

I just think the option needs to be there. Period.

It would be nice if the leather used in Rangers was of the same quality as say, an Escape, or F-series for that matter. While I do like my leather seats (texturing included), the leather just isn't heavy enough.

Bring back the manual transfer case. Turbo diesel. Six-speed manual. Backlit door switches for those of us with power. And damn it, a better horn.

Cheers,
Dave

Well, if a V8 option was used it would have to be bigger than 5.0 to make it worth the hassel. I have an '86 Ranger XLT that had a 5.0 V8 w/AOD and 3.73 8.8 posi. and it really wasn't enough extra torque to justify the conversion so I shoe-horned a 351W (5.8) in it. Now it has lotsa torque and a real kick to drive but fuel economy dropped another 2-3 MPG down to 12 so I could hardly afford to drive it everyday anymore which is why I now have my 07 Ranger with the 4.0 . . . . I'd buy a small 4 turbo diesel in a heartbeat if they ever make one. I'd gladly sacrifice some HP to get 30+ mpg but that's just my own situation.
As for the Chevy Colorado/Canyon, we have one at work and it's a piece of crap compared to a Ranger.

Old skool...

Here's something that would be kool too. I'd like to see a real wooden dash with a chrome inlay and accents within the interior. That would make it look extremely classy. I agree about the horn, it sucks. And here's another option that I think everyone will agree with me on. better steering ratios. I'd like to see ford partner up with Flaming River steering systems with quick ratio steering. check them out www.flamingriver.com . They're owned by Barry Grant which says it all. Some performance add ons would be nice too.

Well, there isn't going to be a next generation Ranger so I guess it's moot, lol.

Besides: they'd probably make it unibody, larger, and give it an independent rear. It'll make the street race folks happy but I'd never buy another one.

Good Ideas...

Those are some good ideas. If Ford was smart they'd keep the ranger and add a few performance parts to the options list. But sadly, this may indeed be the last year for it. Dodge is the only one that looks like it's going to be the sole survivor of the big 3. Toyota and Nissian are killing everybody. GM is killing themselves with their extremely high prices. To buy one of those you need the federal reserve banks.

A lot of things mentioned would be cool, but NO chrome accents. I can't stand chrome.

prersonally, i think they could make the truck 2-3 inches wider. that would make a HUGE difference in the interior space. They could also make the interior a lil more classy and add chrome accents... like they have on the higher end super dutys. I like the chrome accents on the guages of the new superdutys, those are nice.

drop the 55r5e tranny for something that actually works, and not made in france.

add more power to the existing 4lite. Tacomas have basically the same size engine with more power and same mpg... why cant the ranger?

Ford is upping the mpg on current rangers by decreasin tire size. The last 4x4 i looked at that was a comparison to my own, had 235's on it. thats how it got the 16/20mpg rating.

How about 6 gears in the automatic?

Howabout real seats with a lil more creature comfort?

how about adding storage options to the bed. There is a CRAPLOAD of wasted storage space on the sides of the ranger bed, how bout making little storage compartments, so say, a tool set, recovery gear, got valuables? lock them in there, with a real lock so its a btch to break into.

keep the rubber floor as an option but add drain holes so the water can get out on its own, with out rusting out the floor,

how bout coil springs and shocks in the front?

But all this aside, we live in a country that has been gifted with 20+ years of cheap gasoline. Our country boomed. Now with rising costs of fuel, everything is going up in price, and instead of getting 'bigger bigger' vehicals, we are going to start seeing more fuel efficient, smaller cars/trucks come back to the market. Simply because who can afford 10mpg at $5 a gallon? thats 50cents a mile, your better off calling a cab.

I'd like to have something in the Tacoma size range, so make it a midsize. I want 4 full size doors and will give up some bedspace if I have too. From what I hear, it won't matter because Ford is killing the Ranger anyways...

i would like to see the Brazilian Ranger from 05-06 here in the states with the 3.0L turbo charged diesel with crew cab(with the short bed), leather seats and either a 6 speed auto or manual.

thats it. otherwise leave it. i like the dash, the interior, the seat style, the suspension, frame etc...
All for that. What I'd like is a Diesel engine that can get 25+ MPG and yet still have the Torque to pull something. I hate to admit it, but my dad has a 07 Jeep Liberty Diesel and for only being a little 4 Banger diesel it's kicks out some Torque (160 HP and 295 Ft. Lbs of Torque). And he can pull down 30 MPG on a straight freeway drive.

That's pretty much what I'd like in my truck. Maybe a boxed frame as well.

Technically Ford is being smart by removing the Ranger. I mean I know it horrible to say, but it's losing money for them. Now sure you can make the argument if they gave the customer what they wanted it wouldn't matter, but I think they are. The F-150 is bank compared to the Ranger so they are going to keep the F-150 and focus on that. Makes sense to me (from a logical sense). Now put my love for these lil trucks into the equation and I don't understand at all.

Just my .02.

i had a 99 dakota r/t with the 360 v8 in it.........go like snot but so would the gas needle..down that is..........i dont think they would ever put a v8 in a f100/ranger.......would take away from the flagship f150's sales

and if ya want a 4door ranger go buy a sporttrac

only option i would like to see is a 4 banger turbo deisel
