Power mirrors

I was pulling a vehicle out of the shop last week and when you put it in reverse the mirrors fold down so you could see behind you better. Would there be any way to wire your mirrors to do this?

Not quite sure, but I know my dads Z-71 does this. I bet if the explorers have it, we might be able to use it. Unless there would be some sort of relay or something.

1. The car would have to know when it is in reverse
2. There would have to be a selenoid/motor of some sort to move the mirror
3. The car would have to know when it is out of reverse

Sounds awesome though, If it wasn't that much $ I would do it.

It's a cool.....but VERY annoying feature on my parent's '98 Continental. but you can turn it off. Lincoln Continental is a Ford product....there may be a way to do it, but probably only with an electronic automatic transmission though.

you should be able to do it with any tranny. just tap into the reverse light wire for your signal.

That's what I was thinking. I already have power mirrors but I'm not sure if the signal runs through a body control module or anything to save the beginning point and where to stop when the mirror motorizes.

I drove a Navigator recently that had mirrors that fold inward. It had a seperate rocker switch in the door panel.
