I have towed 5000lbs plus with my tranny.. no issues. I think they under rate it for poor drivers

 

JBA is usually the way to go. Doug Thorley also makes a set.

 

You have towed. I doubt it would last long if you did it more often. I used the think the poor drive theory but its just a crappy tranny all together. There was a version of it in the Bronco I think and there was problems with it in that vehicle too.

Mmm I have towed with it alot.. I towed an f-350 with 37s for a good 15 miles.. now that was a suprising tow and a funny site im sure.

 

I would have made him call AAA. But just because you did it once or twice doesn't mean its good or you could do it. I can run a 100 shot of nitrous on my truck for a pass maybe 2 but then boom.

 

It won't work on a 04, the MAF is different. You can make it work with a MAF adapter and a tuner but thats 500 more bucks

 

Well i was just stating it was funny.

But when i towed a huge flat bed twin axle and a honda civic over 2000 miles i was also impressed. It may have helped me blow a bearing in my rear end but the tranny did it.

 

The tow rating is part of the reason I want a different truck. Id feel safer towing with a Dodge Magnum. They are rated to tow more than 5 speed Rangers. LOL

 

Flip the headers around. Left header on the right side pointing towards the rad, vice versa for the other side. Make a x-over pipe and mount the turbo where the old intake was. That should deff give you more than enough for a d/p. You can run w.out a i/c and keep it low boost, 6psi at the most. Pump and injectors are a must.

 

SRT-8 model FTW! Do it! haha. Not a dodge fan but it can be done. if only they brought over the 3.0TDI motor from South Africa.

 

if you are still looking to go boosted check out Thomas Knight as well. It would be awesome if someone would draw up a kit other than STS, I dont like how its setup.... even for road use Id be scared to drive it on the highways.

And sts kits SUCK haha. Too much piping the exhaust gases have all cooled off by the time they reach the turbo. Its just a good idea with poor execution.

 

STS works fine. The temp of the gasses at the turbo doesn't really matter. Heat is not what spins the turbo its the exhaust pulse that pushes on the turbine.

 

If i am correct, what I have read exhaust gas temps actually can help spool and exhaust pressure would change over the course of the exhaust would it not? STS kits use smaller turbines in their turbos to compensate for the lack of pressure when the exhaust finally reaches the turbo, same idea goes on all the 40 feet of intake piping haha. You have to boost all of that so there is lag right there. Just saying STS kits could be alot better..

Why not look into vortec superchargers.. I dont know if it would work but hell why not.

 

you want the cooler exhaust temps going to the turbo, that long pipe going back to the turbo is like a long *** intercooler... colder air means more powa! and from what Ive heard there isnt any lag really... but that could be just because I heard this and not read about it.... Id like to see someone fab up a procharger or something similar

 

It might help some but I don't know what temps exactly affect the effect of the actual gasses. Even with all that piping they are still fairly responsive. But as you said they use small turbos. My buddy was running a bored and stroked, heads, cam ls2 with a STS setup on a 06 GTO but he said that it got to the point where the higher he would run the boost at the more power he would lose because the turbo was being restrictive. He ditched the rear setup for a twin turbo underhood setup but has since ditched the car all together.

 

Yeah i read they dont push as much power as a engine mount turbo can is a biggie. Yes you want colder intake temps.. but the escaping exhaust temps spool part of the turbo..

Sts kits are great for cars with no room but not for high hp numbers that all. they are also very overpriced imho
