Dang man! when you think about it thought it makes sense. An hp d30 in reverse is gonna be really weak. Sucks that it happened though

Glad to see the truck is still drivable Justin. Really disappointed with the D30 for sure.

Yea, I never planned to keep the D30 with the 4BT, but I wanted to keep it together to sell. I'll fix it though

Be careful if you pulled the axle shafts. Those unit bearings aren't designed to be driven without the retaining nuts in place. You were running 4.88s right? The pinion is pretty small with that ratio but it's almost comical that a bush did it in. Considering what I've put mine through in the past I'd have to imagine that was one hell of a bush lol.

Brings to mind a quote from hank Williams Jr. "....You know they're rooted way down deep in my soul...." Only in this case I think it would be "You know they're rooted way down deep in my yard."

I couldn't resist, lol. This is one for the record books.

Yea, I'm putting the stub shaft back in, I didn't think about the unit bearings coming apart. I got it in the garage and the wheels were cocked to hell lol.

The failure was the nut, which I believe was just a poor quality part to begin with. The pinion is junk because I drove the truck forward after the nut broke.

I figured the u-joints would fail first.

To me, this is more of a unique situation rather than overall weakness. I'm confident it will hold up anywhere I go.

But, I've decided to sell the entire setup, suspension and all. With the power I want to make with the 4BT, I'll need bigger axles anyway. Back to the drawing board

You gonna part it out or sell it as a package? What kinda suspension setup are you thinking for the next iteration?

I'm looking to sell as a package, but parting it out is an option depending on who's interested in what.

My plan is a D60 front with either the Sterling 10.25 or D60 rear. My buddy already found my a newer balljoint D60, I believe the matching rear would be the 10.25.

As far as suspension goes, I'm planning on a 4-link front and rear with the possibility of rear air bags for load assist.

The option of narrowing the full width is on the table, I'm leaning yes, but it's obviously cheaper not to.

Not a ton of progress has happened, but the teardown has started.

First step, get the D30 out, rebuild it, sell it. Once it's gone the rest of the truck will come apart.

The whole suspension, drivetrain, and powertrain will be sold during the teardown and I'll start laying out the new setup.

I thought I had found D60's local, turned out way more expensive than I want, so the waiting game has started. I don't know exactly which D60's I'm getting, but I really don't want to pay the extra for the kingpin, so I may end up with the newer balljoint style.

Pics!! (The shop is finally clean-ish)

King pin 60's are way too expensive in my opinion. A ball joint 60 would be just fine

Since my last update I've scored a few parts.

First is a perfect set of Level 2 shifter *****. One of was new in the box.

The other are 1 ton axles from an 02 F350. Got them for $500 with the wheels and tires.

Jeez, all the lug nuts. Primer and paint on those guys? Sticking with the current brake hardware or going all out on new parts, possibly new fluid?

Gonna look sweet. I'm interested to see how all this is going to be put together....

It's held up good. The only part that flaked was the door panel where I'd accidently kick it. Prep is key

lol. nope, just part gathering right now. I've got stuff to get done around the house before winter sets in. I plan to be more productive when I don't have a lawn to take care of
