05edge's V8 swap
In my opinion if you already have the truck and love it then keep it. I'm not saying it's an impossible swap by any means, it's just not as simple. All 98+ 4x4 Rangers are torsion bar front ends so going to one that's not an Edge won't make a difference. And a complete doner Explorer is a must.
Another issue that you will run into is the abs module has a different plug. I took mine out so it wasn't a problem for me but your going to need the one from the Explorer. Also I never mentioned it but since your swapping the entire dashboard harness you will need the gauge cluster from the Explorer as well.
My fuel connections came in the other day this is what you will need to make 5.0 fuel rail work with the Rangers fuel line

It's getting there. The plug wires I ordered were for a distributor so I'll get new ones tomorrow. All that's left is make tranny cooler lines, vacuum lines, put the starter in, bolt on the headers, wire up the e-fan, and a few other little things.
Anyone know much about pats wiring or the pcm? Iv got a wire fault between pats module and the pcm. My scan tool will read pats but has no communication with the pcm. I'm guessing this is why I get a no crank start. Theft light flashes 1:6
Ok I got that figured out. Before I swapped harnesses I tried unpinning pats to mate it into the Rangers harness but when I realized it wouldn't work I had to put pats back into the Explorer harness and accidentally repinned two wire backwards
Glad you got it figured out.
The more I think about it, the less I want to do the Expo 302, or any swap that involves using the Ranger harness.
I'd much rather start from scratch

I agree. If i was to do this over it would have been a 351w like I originally wanted to.
So last night was spent ripping the whole body harness out of the Explorer because the Rangers fuel pump connector is different from the Explorers. I don't have a EVTM for the Explorer so if i cant figure out how to mate the harnesses ill be dropping the tanks to swap pumps. But on the plus side once I get fuel figured out its ready to start!

I almost wonder if it would have been easier to just go with something like a painless harness. This makes me just want to supercharge my 4.0 vs doing a v8 swap. Are you using the shop wiring diagram manuals for each vehicle?
What's up everyone? Last time I was posting I got really close to get the Ranger started. Well the fuel got the best of me so I pushed it off to the side until spring. So jump forward to now it's finally running, but it didn't go easy. Long story short, lost a rod, took out a piston and the crank. I got really lucky, I didn't bend a valve or damage the cyclender walls. So a week later it was back together and running again. I'll throw up some pictures of the recent progress

Why did you loose a rod and take out a piston? Didn't assemble your engine correctly?
It's like 120 times easier just supercharging your existing 4.0 SOHC on a 2004 + Ranger VS doing a V* swap. I'm thinking about getting a MODDBOX, I hear those are pretty bad ***.
