here is the deal, i had a 280zx turbo 20 years ago and i am still kicking my *** for selling it, knowing what it could be now.
i have this great ranger completely straight and perfect except for the performance.
i really like the idea of a mustang /z28 boy harassing me in traffic, i drive mellow now i am 40, and just--DUSTING HIS ***!!--in a plain wrapper 94 xlt short bed.
i have 3 grand and i think i can do a really great build with this

So i didn't get any work done today on the head. However, i got the engine from the yard. I was kind of worried becasue the yard is sketchy. They said it had 109K miles and ran good, no comp test though. I can easily turn it over with a braker bar, is that normal? Guess its okay given i'm going to run through it.
The motor is pretty clean though, not much rust on it...block good paint and head is pretty clean. Kind of disappointed that they cut some of the wires...but at least all the sensors are there that i can tell.
Tomorrow or the next, i should have it up on the stand and pull the cover to check out the top end. Probably pull the head.

Well, i popped the head off today. got too hot so i stopped. Tomorrow i should be it all torn down completely.
Look at this top end! Looks like new!
Then i saw all this **** in the chambers. I think it came from when i popped the head of, and some of the head gasket flaked in. That sound right??
But look at that cross -hatch! Looks good to me.
Why are the exhaust valves like white? ITs only on the 1 and 2 cylinders.

check and see if youre head is warped-same with the deck.
exaust valves on 1&2 white sound like a really lean condition, injectors maybe or computer.
what do the plugs/electrodes look like? they look burnt up to me---lean condition.
i would boil the block before spending the first dollar on the build.

I'm not even using this head, i was just curious to see why it was like that on only two of the cylinders. It was supposedly only 109k miles....
I think i'm going to get the block checked for flatness, given most people are blowing head gaskets because they don't have a proper sealing surface.
The head is already flat, but i'm going to have him machine off as little as possible just for safety's sake.
No need to boil the block or get it hot dipped or whatever. These things are quite awesome. Most guys don't even get most stuff checked out! lol.
